Volunteer: Cone Collection

Join Western Resilience Center’s Climate Crew and the US Forest Service to collect lodgepole pine cones! We will be picking cones off of downed trees and sending them off to the Bessey Nursery in Nebraska for cultivation and they will be back in Colorado in 2 years as baby trees for planting projects at burned sites. The goal is to restock our local seedbank with genetically viable, diverse, and healthy seeds that will allow future forests the best chance at survival. Right now, we are in a deficit in this seed zone and elevation, so it is a huge priority to collect these cones before they open. To join for one or both volunteer days, sign up here.

Level: Easy.
